The new Metro changed the city. Here is how to move without renting your own headache.
Riyadh Metro
The city's new driverless network opened in stages from late 2024, with six lines linking the airport, downtown, Olaya, and the financial district. It is cheap, clean, and the fastest way across the center.
Ride-hailing apps
Riyadh has a wide range of ride-hailing apps. Uber and Careem are the best known, and there are also Bolt, Jeeny and others. Compare prices, or go with the one you are used to.
Taxi app (Ajra)
The official taxi app. Prices are usually lower, and the experience is close to Uber and Careem. Available almost everywhere, from the airport to the city center.
Renting a car
Riyadh is spread out and built for cars, with wide highways and easy parking at most malls and hotels. Worth it if you plan day trips like Edge of the World or want full freedom.
From the airport
King Khalid International sits north of the city. A taxi or ride app to Olaya takes roughly 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic, and the metro also reaches the airport.
